Windows Server 2008 R2 / Windows 7 Server: (My) First Look

Posted by Christian Dam on November 12, 2008

I got my dirty little hands on the Windows Server 2008 R2 (formerly Windows 7 Server) M3 beta and wanted to share some installations screen shots:

Install

Install 2

Install 3

Install 4

Install 5

Install 6

(Odd why the upgrade option is available during a “bare metal” install…)

Install 7

Install 8

Install 9

Install 10

Install 12

Install 13

Install 14

Install 15

Install 16

Install 17

Install 18

That’s it. Nothing major has changed, although the installation screens looks a lot nicer.

Obvoiusly, I haven’t covered all the changes under the hood yet but so far some of the changes are:

  • The Hyper-V integration components are already installed
  • There are fewer roles available
  • There are more features available
  • PowerShell is supported natively
  • A lot of cool Hyper-V improvements that I’ll cover in a later post
